For your consideration we have an antique salt glazed whiskey jug with turkey droppings and some other uniquely fantastic design elements. It is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. There is a line on the bottom that might look like a crack, but it is only a deep indentation made during production. The piece measures approximately 12 inches tall and 8 inches in diameter. Some of it’s more interesting features include several globs of turkey droppings, which are a highly sought after production glaze flaw, a tobacco spit glaze on the upper half and an incised F on the bottom. This F was made before the glaze was applied and it looks like the maker decided to simply push the glaze back instead of adding it on top of the glaze. These elements lead me to believe that the makers were primarily interested in making whiskey instead of making the jugs! Regardless, this fascinating piece of Americana tells a great story about early American pottery production and would be a singular addition to your stoneware collection.
