Weller Pottery Hudson Handpainted Spiderwort and Leaves Vase Signed by the Artist Dorothy England c. 1910
Weller Pottery Hudson Handpainted Spiderwort and Leaves Vase Signed by the Artist Dorothy England c. 1910
I am so excited to be able to offer this important piece of Weller Art Pottery! This Weller Hudson vase is hand painted and signed by the artist Dorothy England. It is blue fading into green with the familiar Hudson matte glaze. On top of this glaze are spiderwort blossoms and foliage expertly painted by Dorothy England, soon to be Laughead. Spiderworts are visually similar to irises and are usually rendered in shades of purple. The signature is located along the base of the piece, highlighted in the third picture. This striking turn of the century piece is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs and measures approximately 8 inches tall and 3 inches wide. The bottom has stickers from it’s last purchase and the Weller name incised as well. The Weller name has faded and the W and R is the only part I can make out. The hand written bill was found inside, and while it is obviously not a record of the sale of this specific vase, it would help build the story of this important piece of American art pottery. These signed Hudson vases are some of the most sought after pieces of Weller pottery. It would be an incredible gift for a vintage pottery collector. I have the other signed Weller vase in the second picture in my shop, link below. If you have any questions or would like additional pictures, please feel free to message me. Thanks for stopping by!
